The owner, a former Miss South Africa, sought to give her holiday home a well-deserved makeover, drawing inspiration from the beloved and renowned Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.
The Vision
The holiday home, characterized by its Mediterranean Revival architectural style, exudes a timeless charm with its terracotta roof tiles, French black railings, vine-covered walls, and arched windows. The owner’s vision was clear: to transform her home into a reflection of the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel’s elegance and grandeur.
The Project Begins
This exciting project came to us through a referral. After the initial site meeting, for which the owner flew in from Johannesburg for two days, the contract was sealed. Her specific desire to replicate the Mount Nelson’s charm set us on a journey to find the perfect pink paint samples that would bring her vision to life.
Preparation and Execution
We began by carefully removing the unruly creepers around the house. Next, we thoroughly high-pressure washed the house to remove the thick salt deposits accumulated from its proximity to the ocean. With the walls clean, we moved on to repairing cracks, waterproofing some of the roof tiles, and applying Dulux Rainshield to ensure the home’s durability against the coastal weather.
The Journey to Perfection
In our quest to match the Mount Nelson’s iconic pink, we reached out to our partners at Dulux in Plettenberg Bay. Marlise Ackermann, our Garden Route Director, meticulously selected a few recommended colours from Dulux, ensuring that each sample was compared to the Mount Nelson’s hues. After presenting these options to the owner, she chose the one that perfectly captured her vision.
The Final Touches
The owner flew back to Plettenberg Bay to inspect the progress. After reviewing various shades of pink samples, she selected the final color for the walls. We then applied two coats of the chosen Dulux Powdery Pink, achieving the perfect Mount Nelson look she envisioned.

We are proud to say that the holiday home now mirrors the elegance and charm of the Mount Nelson Hotel. The transformation is stunning, and the owner was thrilled with the results.
